Page 128 of a script! WHOOP WHOOP

I hate that feeling where you're not sure what should happen next in a story. usually i'm writing stories in which i am heading toward an ending i have pre-arranged but in this case i'm writing blind and that's freakin hard. normally i'd kind of walk away at this stage and take a breather but it's nanowrimo and i'm behind as it is so i guess i'll have to make a call on the run and see how goes.

do i kill everyone or just a few? is it to be a happy ending or one with a bit of a macabre twist? i'm thinking the latter. this whole thing is about the cycles of life and repeating our mistakes so i don't see why i can't have the great hope at the end about to fall into the same trap as everyone else. it sends it up for a prequel (yeah lol that'll happen) but also takes the happy edge of things. I'm not as violent as shakespeare but i'm not in the habit of writing comedies either.

yep. no i think i'm going to make MACE make a few mistakes... big mistakes.

favourite quote of the day?

Don't mock me, LITMUS, I'm not in the mood. Why are you smiling?

I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about what ROGER thinks.

(Narrows her eyes at him as the lift comes to a stop.)

See - it's when you say cryptic shit like that I get worried.

Kiss me?

What the fuck is wrong with you...

(Pushes past him into LAB 47.)

THAT THING - where you delete part of your story for NO REASON and then have to re-write it poorly.

Bonus: it was actually a really good scene.

Despite the fact that I work most hours of the day (and sleep the remainder) I managed to write something.

I didn't write much but I did write!

basically me today was this:

So - despite a full day of work I managed to lock myself away for an hour in the evil book store across the road from where I work and write for an hour. In the locked post following this I'll put my script up to date - it looks impressive formatted but it's shy of 10,000 words. Scripts are cruel like that. They deceive you with their epic page count but really it's mostly white space - a bit like the universe.

This year I'm not just trying to write 50,000 meaningless words - I'm trying to learn something so I'm also reading a lot of useful instruction books as I go.

First lesson: In every scene the characters must have clear motivations and goals. The book instructs you to think of the scenes from the point of view of the actor playing the role. Even in the absence of a script - if you give an actor the character's goal, drama happens. Starting with the motivation leads to a more dynamic, vital scene. Already used it, total convert to this rule!

So - foolishly hopeful beginning!

"I cannot tell you what a person will do, only what a thousand people are likely to do. It is an infuriating law that governs the tides but falters at the progress of a raindrop. They say that the underlying quantum world is like a storm - raging against the nothingness beneath. Do you think that's what we do? A final struggle before the plunge."

It is officially 10 minutes into the start of NANOWRIMO and I can confirm that I am writing, 'L I T M U S'  only this time it is being written as a theatre script. Basically it is a plot centred around a small group of scientists locked underground trying to solve one man's problem. When one of them wants to leave, the entire world threatens to collapse.

Tomorrow (well, later today!) the first update will go through.

Here goes nothing everyone.

One month.  One novel script.

27 October 2013 @ 08:47 pm

There will be locked entries with the updates and then the blog as i try to survive this month's nanowrimo. At the moment I'm torn between trying to finish my long standing Lab 47 (now Litmus), trying something completely random and ridiculous or writing scenes in no particular order from Litmus. If I was to try something random it would be along the lines of a new character ever time I stopped writing or literally naming the characters things like, 'protagonist, red herring' lol just for amusement.

This isn't going to be easy, I work a full time job with crazy hours and several after work activities but I am going to try to write at lunch and/or after work every day. If I'm not writing, I'll be ranting about writing here in this blog! (where i will also be stealing lots of friendly gifs to keep me going!!!!).

URGH so, as Australians we all get a head start on the rest of the world. See you in a couple of days when the mayhem beings. I hope to have actually decided what I'm writing by then.
